“What’s goin’ on, Gil?” Dante set the gun he was cleaning aside, turning his full attention to Gilgamesh.
█⊰⚔⊱██ “U-um… just… trying to get use to this. The big teddy bear is lucky, lucky enough that work here is not revolving around him having to kill. Much as it’s dog eat dog, he’s gonna need time for him get desensitized to beating down people.
— “We will not get jumped.” She sounded so sure of herself as she said so. “I can find things to throw at them if we do. I am.. Not afraid of hurting a mortal.” It was the killing she couldn’t do. She could push somebody to the very brink of death, but she could never murder them. It was her sense that too many people died because of her already. It had been a close call today with him playing hero, and honestly, she was more grateful for it than he probably thought.
”Alright. When we get home.. Well, when I get you home, you rest, take a bath, whatever it is you need. You can even have some of my drinks if you want.” She couldn’t even remember when she had done this much in one night. Hell, she couldn’t remember ever doing this. She considered it a repayment, for he had been looking out for her at this time. So, what was wrong with a little bit of opposite day for a few days?
She could fight. She had amazing precision, particularly with knives. While she preferred to fight only out of self defense means, if she had to do it for something else, she would. She was not scared for her life, but for so for his and his safety. She would make sure he returned home, even if she didn’t.
“Do not worry too much about me, please.” She would up telling him as they headed down the back streets. Thank god it wasn’t crowded at night, for it would’ve been stares for miles if this had happened during the daytime. She knew how curiosity worked, and they were bound to get questions if they went out like this during the daytime.
█⊰⚔⊱██ “Didn’t mean just people…” He was referring to anything wanting a quick meal ticket for one thing, hopefully it would go on without a hitch. He needed to rest after that and it might be a bad idea for him to keep pushing himself with the risks that were before them; he’s not in the best of shape to swap forms if it came down to it or rather stay in it for too long knowing his current state. Regardless, he needed to keep on his toes for a good reason.
It won’t take too long to reach back home, it’s night time and there isn’t much going on thankfully. If this were broad daylight there would be questions, too many of them over what happened and why he’s the only hurt and that included hospitals being brought into the picture with the cops. That wouldn’t help, his master wouldn’t be happy either if he were to show up like this all on TV if the news got wind of it too. Not what he wanted to deal with, not now or ever with what it could bring as is.
So he limped, followed even if his body was hating him for going against the wishes and desires it held for rest at this point. He needed to go, so why would he just sit there? He couldn’t, even if things were getting blurry again. Shit, come on, he’s not that far from home at this point since the street looked familiar enough. He can’t pass out with a concussion whether he’s a pair of greaves or not. Keep awake, keep awake, that’s all he needed to do before he fell off into dreamland against his own wishes.
Almost home free, if he can hold out for a little longer and get his mind to hold together long enough. He didn’t need somebody there worrying to… er… worrying a shit ton about him if he did go lights out. “Got my reasons to, shit, you had to be forced to watch that…” Why wouldn’t he worry? She had a front row seat and he sure as hell would bet that there was a chance she would’ve gone off on them if he really was going to get himself killed.
▃▄▅▆ ∶ —— “I ain’t steal nothin’ from ya, Bozo! Ya know what happened to the little boy who cried wolf? Ya window was open and I thought I seena a squirrel or somethin’ run in there.”
█⊰⚔⊱██ “You tried breakin’ in though, my master doesn’t like people around there for a good reason. Shit, you were lucky he wasn’t the one that found you in there, the most I was doing was trying to clean!”
— “… I was going to tell you once I figured out how. I never expected it to come out like this.” She was being extremely careful with her choice of words, and even more careful upon wrapping her arm around his shoulders, going to let him lean his weight onto her. She was rather thin, but she was strong enough.
Sighing softly, she had gone silent for a few moments. It wasn’t what he had just told her, no, it was just a habit she had made out of spending long hours processing things. “… That’s alright.” When she finally spoke, her voice had gone almost from calm to near perfect soft. Hell, it even sounded motherly.
She didn’t give two shits if he was a weapon or not. He was alive, and that was all she really had to be grateful for. Of course, she’d probably smack him once he was fully healed, but she never dared once think about thoughts along the lines of what they had just done to him. A smack and a little bit of annoyed yelling would do. She didn’t want too much violence, after all, and he was alive. He was with her, breathing, living, even though he was bloodied and battered.
“… Would it be easier for you if I carried you, instead?” She asked him, actually sounding concerned. It would be safe to assume they’d gotten to his legs, though she didn’t want his pride to get hurt too much. Some men did tend to get their egos shattered once a girl was required to help them.
█⊰⚔⊱██ “Guessin’ you’re not too shocked, huh? I’m not gonna be wreckin’ shit like this though, if we get jumped, I’ll need to swap.” By anything not human, if it meant that she didn’t have to just kill and leave him off to himself. It’s for back up of course, something that might be unsurprising. He might come out hurting more from it, but, it’s his choice upon leaning carefully into her for the time being. The greaves will be fine, he just needed the chance to recover off this, before he winded up getting a little too much in trouble with his luck.
Huh? Her tone was the confusing part of it, she was treating him like that he guessed? It worked, not that he can complain while going over in mind what to do for the consequences of his actions. Probably going to have to do a lot to get Dante to not wring his neck, shit, he had to pick better times to do this in the first place. Truth be told though? He half expected her to just want to wring his neck also, which she can do and more being death yeah, but he’s not exactly caring much.
So he’ll avoid bringing it up at this point for her also, best not to go on about it after one life or death situation. He’ll ask whenever they were in the clear, rather not press too deep knowing she might not like that or for him to go on about it. All because he wasn’t wanting to go that far, Rebby would kill him as is for ruining a chance at getting to know someone more in the first place. Well, or at the very least get her number out of curiosity to what he may have missed out on. Wait, why is he thinking of that now? He really shouldn’t be upon hearing her question.
He’s not stupid or stubborn enough to try going around like this, but he might be okay just going like this for now. “I got hit on one leg at least, if it keeps bein’ a problem, then go ahead an’ carry me. I’ll try a bit to see if it’s hurt too much for me to put weight on it like this.” He isn’t exactly the type with an ego or pride much, that might be why he was agreeing to it if his leg slowed them down too much. It’s simply him wanting to see if it’s hurt too badly for him to go on.
— It was clear to tell that she was irritated, though it wasn’t at him. In fact, he had been the only person keeping her from massacring everybody that was in the premises. It was more so the man who called them monsters. Being called a monster was an insult, but knowing it was true only caused even more pain. Though she had never killed more than demons, it hurt to be called the thing she strove to stay away from becoming.
“… Thanks.” She said quietly, bowing her head. “… You didn’t have to do that, you know.” She didn’t deserve it, in her opinion. He had been beaten, shattered, and bloodied just to save her life, yet, in her eyes, her life was only a small set of mere circumstances. His life was more valuable, for he could die at any given time and she’d once again be left alone, being forced to live on with memories to daunt and tease her in the dead of the night.
“Let me… Help you,” she murmured quietly as she felt herself become loose in her bonds, enough for her to slip through. “I’m not exactly an expert, in fact, this is part of the way of the exact opposite of my job, but.. I should be able to make you last with what I have until we get home. Don’t try to argue with me, either, because it’s not going to work.” Hell, she’d pick him if she needed to.
Oh, she’d see to it he got better. Even if that meant she wasn’t allowed to let him out of her sights or earshot. He had wanted to look after her, and, rather ironically, this event had turned the other way around, and for sure as hell, she wasn’t going to let anybody hurt him until he was fully healed. She didn’t care who the hell it was, she’d put up a nasty fight before letting anybody harm him further. He couldn’t afford it, anyways, considering the beating he just took.
█⊰⚔⊱██ “… when were y'gonna tell me?” The whole being the Death thing that is, given he hadn’t expected to discover that was being kept from him. Well, he did assume she was human so it’s not like he can blame her since he kept his own secret from her. He’s not human either, quite the opposite given he can recover from this easily with a few days of rest. Maybe a bit later, but that would be a wait and see sort of thing as much as he would need to give a full explanation on why he came in this banged up. Hopefully without dealing with two angry claymores, a crying gun, and an irritated master from this. Well, him and probably someone else yet he just shrugged that one off for now. He’ll find out later he guessed.
Then came the fact he owed her something too, she’d need to know he isn’t human either, wouldn’t she? Yeah, she’d need to know that he isn’t a human being, a normal one at least considering his true state is anything but that. “I’m actually a pair of friggin’ greaves, suppose t'be used in close combat, only got so hurt ‘cuz I didn’t want 'em to get that far ahead.” His thick skin can’t help him all the time, although he wouldn’t be surprised if they had aching body parts come wake up time.
For whatever reason she had to hide it, he won’t bring it up, she has reasons so why should he? He thought that it was for the best to go with it, as much as he wanted to argue and say he can walk himself. He can’t really, he’s hurt far too badly and the chances of him keeping up were slim without help. The tables had turned on him indeed, he was suppose to be keeping her company not getting himself killed so easily.
It’s not like he can disagree, she’ll get her chance to kill him later if that’s what she wants to do as payback for his choice of heroics. How stupid that was for him to go so far as to be like one. The greaves were going to be fortunate if he didn’t get mauled by his loved ones or worse knowing he’s pushed it this time; especially if his master were to be angry. “Alright, alright… not gonna argue.”
